Vida Nova Set For Release in 2002
In June Cliff invited a host of wine journalists from the UK to taste a sample of the new wine he's producing at his
Portuguese estate. As reported in the Daily Telegraph, the response was
aparently very enthusiastic.
Cliff has hired respected Australia wine-maker David Baverstock three years ago to help him choose the vines, mostly of the Shiraz and Aragonez (Temporanillo) grape, to produce an above-average
table wine. This year, he expects to harvest enough grapes to fill 50,000 bottles which should be available
for purchase by summer 2002.
The Daily Telegraph has also reported that Cliff plans to call the wine Vida
Nova, which means 'New Life'.

Cliff Makes Appearance On This Is Your Life
Cliff made a surprise appearance on This Is Your Life earlier this month, paying tribute to Manfred Mann singer Paul Jones.
Concluding his taped message, Cliff said, "And I just want to say also that, Paul, you're a very talented man and I'm really thrilled to have known you. You made me think about the way I think of life, challenged me very often before we knew each other too well and it was a great growth period for me, so thank you for that."
"You're a singer, composer, actor, presenter - your talents know no bounds. Have a wonderful time. God Bless."
While the two used to lock horns during the sixties on the issue of religion, particularly on the 1967 television program
Looking For An Answer, they have become friends over the years. Paul, who was an
atheist at the time, also converted to Christianity.
Paul said of Cliff, "How can he be so modest? I mean - he's so generous and so very obedient to what God told him to do. I used to be so horrible about Cliff years ago,
yes I did, and now I just love him and I have such admiration for him nowadays."

New Cliff Album to Be On Papillon
For the first time in his nearly 43 year career, Cliff appears to have opted to record for a label other than EMI.
Following the expiry of his contract with the record company back in 1999 after their mishandling of his
Real As I Wanna Be album and reluctance to release The Millennium Prayer single in that same year, there was much speculation that Cliff would be parting ways with the company. Cliff chose to release
The Millennium Prayer on a smaller label, Papillon, and quickly rocketed to the top of the UK singles charts for the first time since 1990's
Saviour's Day. He did, however, deny any rift with the company
saying he would return to EMI after his 'sabbatical' year in 2000.
It appears that Cliff has changed his mind and decided to see if lightening could strike twice by releasing his new album, due in stores this
autumn,
on Papillon and his own label Blacknight rather than sign a new contract with EMI. The album will feature a
combination of all-new songs and covers produced by long-time Cliff collaborator
Alan Tarney. Tarney also produced Cliff's two most successful studio albums of
all time, 1987's Always Guaranteed and 1989's Stronger, as well as
writing and producing some his biggest hits of the seventies and eighties
including We Don't Talk Anymore, Wired For Sound, Dreamin' and Some
People.
Papillon Records was launched in August 1999 and their first release was the
Jethro Tull album Dot.Com which charted across Europe. The Millennium
Prayer, which was released in November of that same year, gave the label its
first No.1 and firmly cemented it as a major independent label in the UK. EMI,
meanwhile, is currently in talks regarding a merger with German media company Bertelsmann
and will re-release four of Cliff's albums, including bonus tracks, starting
this June.

Sir Cliff Admits Youth Jabs
Pop singer Sir Cliff Richard has confessed to
having had cosmetic treatment on his face to
help maintain his ever-youthful image.
Sir Cliff, who celebrates his 60th birthday on
Saturday, has been dubbed the Peter Pan of
Pop because of his seemingly timeless
popularity and boyish charm.
But in an interview with
OK! magazine he
reveals he has had his
forehead injected with
Botox - a form of the
toxin produced by the
bacterium which causes
botulism - to banish his
wrinkles.
"I've tried this stuff called Botox, which they
inject. I had some injected into my forehead to
see if I could rid myself of lines.
"Apparently it relaxes the muscles," he said.
Botox works by weakening the facial muscles.
After the injection, it takes about four days to
work and its effects last for around six months.
Although Sir Cliff said he and his sisters took
after their mother, who "always looked much
younger than her age", he said he felt an
enormous amount of media pressure to give
nature a helping hand.
"Because of the Peter Pan of pop title, I have
had to live up to something that nobody
actually can. You are going to age - that is a
fact of life," he stated.
He added that he
would even go as far
as to have cosmetic
surgery: "I don't see
any point in beating
around the bush.
"I wouldn't think twice
other than about the
fear of what might go
wrong."
Sir Cliff has also spoken
in the past about his
daily exercise regime
and strict diet to stay slim.

Sir Cliff's unwashed shirt sells for a staggering £2,050
With his 60th birthday upon us, Sir Cliff will be pleased to know that he
is still a hot favourite with fans. It seems they will go to any length
in order to get their hands on his clothes!
eBay.co.uk, the largest
person to person online trading site, is hosting weekly celebrity auctions
for Granada's This Morning programme. Every week on This Morning, viewers
are given the chance to bid online or via the phone for a different item
donated by stars of TV, music, film and theatre. The proceeds of each
auction go to one of three UK charities - The Cancer Research Campaign, the
NSPCC or the RSPCA. The latest item to go under the hammer is a stage shirt
worn by Sir Cliff Richard himself - that has never been
washed....
Fans were whipped up into a frenzy last week with the
competition to win the shirt fierce, over the few days the auction was live.
The winner victorious is Patricia Eaton from London who beat 30 others hands
down. Bidding on behalf of her friend Christine, Cliff's No.1 fan, Patricia
was so desperate to win that she bid a staggering £2,050, and won her the
shirt outright.
With all the money from the auction going to charity,
Patricia and Christine have chosen to donate this sum of £2,050 to Cancer

Cliff Back in UK Top Ten
The Whole Story has become Cliff's 35th album to make the UK Top ten, entering at No.7 just two days after his sixtieth birthday.
Not only did the new compilation album reach the top ten, it was certified gold for sales of over 200,000 copies in its first week, more than the No.2 album for The Beautiful South called Painting It Red. This effectively means that sales-wise Cliff was at least the No.2 most popular album of the week behind Radiohead's
Kid A, which was certified platinum for 300,000 sales in its first week, a week prior to
The Whole Story's release, and remains at that certification.

Song For Jill In Wrong Key
Memorials come in all shapes and sizes: a children's playground in Kensington
for Diana, Princess of Wales, a pop concert in aid of cancer charities for
Linda McCartney. Usually they are fitting and personalised tributes. No doubt
in time, friends and admirers will celebrate the opening of the Paula Yates
School of Sex, Drugs and Rock'n'Roll.
A Song for Jill was screened on BBC
1 last night to launch a year-long campaign to raise 5 million pounds to
found the Jill Dando Institute of Crime Science at University College London.
Nick Ross, Dando's co-presenter on Crimewatch, said lat week that the
institute "really will help make the world a better place".
Sir Cliff
Richard, one of Dando's closest friends, is not convinced. Although he is a
trustee of the Jill Dando Fund and starred in last night's show, he says:
"This whole business of crime science sound so weird and out of our
league.
"I guess it's strange to say but I don't think Jill would ever
have seen herself as being a forerunner of something like
this."
Richard has made a significant personal donation to the campaign
and is considering a tribute single. But he is pessimistic at the prospect
of raising so many millions of pounds for such an abstract and
unexplored subject.
"The fundraising is going to be a difficult,
uphill struggle. It won't be as easy as raising money for a struggling
country or a children's charity"' he says. "The TV show we did last night is
the first time I've felt we've been able to explain it properly. If the
memorial actually works, if it maybe alleviates future suffering of victims,
there's no doubt that Jill would have been happy".
The theory behind
Crime Science, Nick Ross's brainchild, is to "survey the evidence of crime to
find ways of preventing future crime". Richard has strong objections to the
way police routinely studied evidence relating to Dando's
murder.
"When the police checked Jill's diaries and phone numbers, they
tried to find something wrong that they could pin a motive on. They
thought she might have been having affairs left, right and centre, so
possibly an ex-lover could have killed her. But she wasn't. The public saw
her innocence get snuffed out".
Richard is also furious that the
police leaked so many details of the investigation to the press. "I thought ,
if I was the murderer and reading all this, I would either be rubbing my
hands together with glee saying `they're really wrong', or thinking `I'm
going to get out, they're getting close'. I kept wishing they wouldn't tell
us so much".
