I'm Nearly Famous is widely credited as the album which revived Cliff's career after years of lacklustre sales.
The first single from the album, Miss You Nights, brought Cliff back into the UK top-twenty after his previous two singles had failed to chart, and went on to become a fan favourite and Cliff's most requested song on UK radio. It was, however,  the next single Devil Woman which put Cliff firmly back into the higher-reaches of the charts both in the UK and abroad. The single was also one of only three Cliff songs to reach the US top ten, peaking at No.6 in the Billboard charts.
Upon its release in 1976 UK music magazine Melody Maker wrote, 'Cliff Richard has at last made the sort of album he could, and should, have been making for years. It is with some incredulity that I have to say that for the past ten days I've been playing two albums constantly. One is Marvin Gaye's I Want You. The other is I'm Nearly Famous. The renaissance of Richard, for that is what I believe this album heralds, is long overdue...It is the best album of new songs ever.'

One of Cliff's own personal favourites, Rock'n'Roll Juvenile continued the Cliff Richard 'renaissance' which had begun with I'm Nearly Famous.
All but one of the album's tracks are produced by Australian band member Terry Britten who had co-written Devil Woman and went on to pen Tina Turner's hit What's Love Got To Do With It and the Michael Jackson/Stevie Wonder duet Just Good Friends from Jackson's Bad album. He gave Cliff another international top-five hit with Carrie, which went on to sell over a million copies, and also produced perhaps Cliff's funkiest and highest energy album ever.
Another Australian member of Cliff's band, Alan Tarney, contributed one song to the album which would go on to become Cliff's highest selling ever: We Don't Talk Anymore. This single topped the charts worldwide, and gave Cliff his second US top-ten hit.

I'm No Hero was the first album to be entirely produced by perhaps Cliff's most successful producer of all time, Alan Tarney.
This album really set the tone for Cliff in the eighties, and went on to become one of his highest-selling albums ever. The most successful single from the album was a track written by Tarney and Leo Sayer, Dreamin', which hit the top ten around the world, including in the US, and sold more than one million copies. The albums other single, A Little In Love, was also successful, topping the charts in Japan and hitting the top twenty elsewhere, including the US.
Billboard Magazine described the songs as "mostly mid-to-uptempo creamy confections which bristle with catchy hooks" adding that "The shimmering instrumental backdrops on the various cuts add to the pop punch."

Shakin' All Over (B-side, Daddy's Home)
Another Tarney-produced album, Wired For Sound solidified Cliff's reputation as one of the most successful contemporary artists of the eighties.
The title track went on to become a top five hit for him around the world and something of a signature tune, while his cover of the Shep and the Limelights classic Daddy's Home also went on to hit the top ten, becoming yet another million-seller for Cliff.
Reflecting the increased interest in his career in the US during this period, Billboard had the following to say about this album, "In the past few years Richard has perfected one of the catchiest sounds in pop, chock full of hooks, lilting melody lines and creamy vocals. Richard is best on jaunty mid-to-uptempo tunes, where he displays a zest and zip to rival Billy Joel's liveliest rockers."
