The Rock Connection features a selection of new material, including the singles Heart User, Shooting From The Heart and the top-ten duet with Phil Everly, She Means Nothing to Me, and a few classic Rock'n'Roll covers from the previously released Rock'n'Roll Silver box-set.
The last studio album to be released before Cliff's run in the musical Time, The Rock Connection in many ways represents the end of the end of the phase of Cliff's career begun with the release of I'm Nearly Famous. Heart User would be the last single written or co-written by Terry Britten to be released by Cliff. His next album, largely written and produced by Alan Tarney, would herald the beginning of another resurgence of his career.

Released after Cliff's one year stint in the West End musical Time and in the 39th year of his career, Always Guaranteed went on to become Cliff's most successful studio album of all time.
The album, entirely produced by and almost entirely written by Alan Tarney, produced the top-ten hits My Pretty One and Some People and established Cliff as a major figure in the late eighties UK pop scene. It was also Cliff's first album to spawn 4 singles, the B-sides of which are featured as bonus tracks on this release.
Accompanying the album was the sell-out 30th anniversary tour of the UK, Cliff's most ambitious yet, and sell-out tours of Europe and Australasia where the album and singles also had a significant impact.

A worthy follow-up to Always Guaranteed, this album remains Cliff's second highest-selling studio album of all time and his only album to produce 4 UK top-twenty hits. These included Cliff's 100th single, The Best of Me, which peaked at #2, the same position as his first single, and the Stock, Aitkin and Waterman production I Just Don't Have The Heart at #3, which also gave Cliff his first hit in the dance charts where it hit #2.
Alan Tarney remained the dominant producer on this album, but Cliff also brought in other talent such as the enormously successful producers Stock, Aitkin and Waterman, and reggae band Aswad to produce Share A Dream. The result is one of Cliff's strongest albums, if not indeed his strongest to date.
