After
four years of playing second fiddle to Ocean Deep, Miss You Nights
has finally regained the No.1 position on The Internet Cliff Richard Song &
Album Poll. It's interesting that this return to No.1 comes just after Cliff
chose for the first time since it's release to omit this song from a UK and/or
European tour, however it did return for the Australian and Asian legs of the
tour.
Debuting on the chart this year were a few songs prominently featured in the
recent Wanted On Tour. Born To Rock'n'Roll, originally featured in
the 1986 musical Time, was the highest new entry, tying with Remember
Me at No.14. Although only featured in the UK/Europe and New Zealand
portions of the tour, the 1965 import single Angel seemed to make a big
impression in those countries, entering the charts at No.18. Like Strangers
from Cliff's most recent studio album Wanted also managed to sneak into
the charts at No.20.
Also entering this charts out of nowhere were the 1963 and 1965 No.1 hits Summer
Holiday and The Minute You're Gone. Only the former made Wanted On
Tour, and even then only in Asia, but they were part of the greatest amount
of pre-1976 songs to make the charts yet. While Cliff's first hit Move It
dropped three places to No.8, the 1962 No.1 The Young Ones recorded the
year's greatest gain, climbing six places to No.7 perhaps partly due to the fact
that it was featured in the tour worldwide. The Next Time also remained
in the chart, dropping four places to No.19.
Re-entering the chart this year was the 1989 No.3 dance single I Just Don't
Have The Heart at #19. Leaving the charts from last year's No.11 placing was
When You Walk In The Room from the Wanted album, followed by Misunderstood
Man, the last song from Heathcliff to feature in the chart, Saviour's
Day and Real As I Wanna Be tracks Vita Mia, Snowfall On The
Sahara and the title track.
